On February 11th, the Feast day in honor of the Our Lady of Lourdes, we annually commemorate the World Day of Sick. The Blessed Virgin Mary, our Mother of Mercy draws near to all those who suffer any bodily or spiritual afflictions. She also joins her hands with all caregivers so that the tender mercy of her Son, may heal and console.
I invite all of you to join me in asking for her intercession as we plead for God’s mercy to end the pandemic, to comfort and heal all those afflicted with any ailment, and protect all caregivers.
May Blessed Mary’s good counsel awaken us the bonds that unite us as brothers and sisters. We have all felt the vulnerabilities that threaten us, especially the most fragile among us. May the wisdom and mercy of Mary’s son, the Lord Jesus, teach us to work together in showing greater reverence for the gift of human life. The life of each one of us is made richer and holier when we act as good stewards, seeking to protect and provide for one another. Joining our sacrifices to the one saving sacrifice of Jesus may we build up the Body of Christ.
Holy Virgin of Guadalupe,
Queen of the Angels and Mother of the Americas.
We fly to you today as your beloved children.
We ask you to intercede for us with your Son,
as you did at the wedding in Cana.
Pray for us, loving Mother,
and gain for our nation and world,
and for all our families and loved ones,
the protection of your holy angels,
that we may be spared the worst of this illness.
For those already afflicted,
we ask you to obtain the grace of healing and deliverance.
Hear the cries of those who are vulnerable and fearful,
wipe away their tears and help them to trust.
In this time of trial and testing,
teach all of us in the Church to love one another and to be patient and kind.
Help us to bring the peace of Jesus to our land and to our hearts.
We come to you with confidence,
knowing that you truly are our compassionate mother,
health of the sick and cause of our joy.
Shelter us under the mantle of your protection,
keep us in the embrace of your arms,
help us always to know the love of your Son, Jesus. AMEN.
Jornada Mundial del Enfermo
El 11 de febrero, fiesta en honor a Nuestra Señora de Lourdes, conmemoramos anualmente la Jornada Mundial del Enfermo. La Santísima Virgen María, nuestra Madre de Misericordia se acerca a todos aquellos que sufren cualquier aflicción corporal o espiritual. Ella también junta sus manos con todos los cuidadores para que la tierna misericordia de su Hijo, de la sanación y el consuelo.
Los invito a todos a que nos unamos a pedir su intercesión mientras suplicamos por la misericordia de Dios para que ponga fin a la pandemia, para que sane y consuele a todos los afectados por cualquier padecimiento y para que proteja a todos los cuidadores.
Que el buen consejo de la Virgen Santísima nos despierte a los lazos que nos unen como hermanos y hermanas. Todos hemos sentido la vulnerabilidad que nos amenaza, especialmente a los más frágiles entre nosotros. Que la sabiduría y misericordia del hijo de María, el Señor Jesús, nos enseñe a trabajar juntos para mostrar una mayor reverencia por el don de la vida humana. La vida de cada uno de nosotros se hace más abundante y santa cuando actuemos como buenos administradores, buscando proteger y proveer los unos a los otros. Uniendo nuestros sacrificios al único sacrificio salvador de Jesús, para que consolidaremos el único Cuerpo de Cristo.

Acudimos a ti hoy como tus amados hijos.
Te pedimos que intercedas por nosotros con tu Hijo,
como lo hiciste en las bodas de Caná.
Ruega por nosotros, Madre amorosa,
y obtén para nuestra nación, nuestro mundo,
y para todas nuestras familias y seres queridos,
la protección de tus santos ángeles,
para que podamos salvarnos de lo peor de esta enfermedad.
Para aquellos que ya están afectados,
te pedimos que les concedas la gracia de la sanación y la liberación.
Escucha los gritos de aquellos que son vulnerables y temerosos,
seca sus lágrimas y ayúdalos a confiar.
En este tiempo de dificultad y prueba,
enséñanos a todos en la Iglesia a amarnos los unos a los otros y a ser pacientes y amables.
Ayúdanos a llevar la paz de Jesús a nuestra tierra y a nuestros corazones.
Acudimos a ti con confianza,
sabiendo que realmente eres nuestra madre compasiva,
la salud de los enfermos y la causa de nuestra alegría.
Refúgianos bajo el manto de tu protección,
mantennos en el abrazo de tus brazos,
ayúdanos a conocer siempre el amor de tu Hijo, Jesús. Amén.
