Mission | The Black Catholic Ministry (BCM) of the Diocese of Sacramento mission is to evangelize, catechize, and celebrate Black Catholics by promoting the development of Black spirituality. |
What we do | Under the Office of Youth & Young Adults (OYYA), the BCM works together in a spirit of unity with the bishop, parishes, and leadership groups. We equip leaders with evangelization tools and resources to carry out the mission of promoting Black Catholic spirituality. We witness and proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ through faith formation, spiritual retreats, and social justice gatherings. |
Who we are | We are a representative body composed of laity, religious, and clergy from various parishes throughout the diocese. |
Vision | Planting the seeds of evangelization and catechesis to grow deeply rooted leaders in Black spirituality to enrich the Church. |
UPCOMING EVENTS
-- Umoja Mass and Celebration!
The Black Catholic Ministry of the Diocese of Sacramento warmly invites you to attend the Umoja Mass and Celebration on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 10:00 am, at St. Anthony Parish in Sacramento. The Mass will be celebrated by Most Reverend Rey Bersabal. As the first year of our seven-year celebration of the Seven Principles of Kwanzaa, this year’s focus is Umoja – Unity in the Family, Community, and Nation. Each subsequent year will focus on another Kwanzaa principle, beginning with Kujichagulia (Self-Determination) in 2027 – 2028.
This celebration offers an opportunity for prayer, fellowship, cultural appreciation, and a renewed commitment to unity within our families, parishes, and communities.
Following Mass, we invite everyone to remain for a joyful community celebration featuring local food vendors, live entertainment, and a drum circle. Bring your percussion instruments and join us as we celebrate the spirit of Umoja together.
Please share the Umoja flier with others.
