The Diocese of Sacramento today expanded its list of clergy members credibly accused of child sex abuse, adding the name of a priest who served in Sacramento and Roseville between 1995 and 2005.
Roberto Jaramillo, 70, has been accused of the repeated sexual abuse and rape of a girl between 1996 and 1999. Jaramillo left the Diocese of Sacramento in 2005 and served in the Archdiocese of Atlanta before returning to his home diocese in Colombia in 2008.
Jaramillo is the subject of a felony arrest warrant for his crimes. The Diocese is cooperating with investigators and asks anyone with information about Jaramillo – in particular, with information related to possible additional victims – to contact Detective Matthew Wollman of the Sacramento Police Department at (916) 808-1223.
Jaramillo served in Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in downtown Sacramento, St. Rose Parish in Roseville, Immaculate Conception Parish in Oak Park, and St. Rose Parish in South Sacramento.
Reports of the 1996 rape and abuse were first brought to the attention of the diocese by a third party in 2021. The diocese notified law enforcement and has made numerous attempts to contact and interview the victim in order to investigate the matter.
In August 2022, the diocese learned the case was the subject of an investigation by the Sacramento Police Department. The diocese shared its information with investigators and was able to obtain enough information to present the matter to the diocese’s Independent Review Board. This week, the review board approved adding Jaramillo’s name to the credibly accused list.
The diocese has received two additional allegations involving Jaramillo. In 1999, Jaramillo was accused of kissing a juvenile boy. Jaramillo denied this accusation, and investigations by both the diocese and local law enforcement at the time found insufficient evidence to warrant further action. In 2020, the diocese received a report of Jaramillo sexually abusing an adult male in 2001. The victim was encouraged to report the matter to law enforcement. The Diocese of Sacramento continues to share information about this allegation and the investigation of it with Jaramillo’s home diocese in Colombia.
“The actions described in these matters are reprehensible and sickening,” said Jaime Soto, Bishop of Sacramento. “It is heartbreaking to consider the betrayal these sins represent toward innocent victims. We are committed to cooperating with investigators and doing all we can to secure justice for those who were betrayed and hurt.”

La Diócesis de Sacramento agrega a Roberto Jaramillo a lista de sacerdotes acusados de abuso sexual de menores

La Diócesis de Sacramento amplió hoy su lista de miembros del clero acusados en forma creíble de abuso sexual de menores, agregando el nombre de un sacerdote que sirvió en Sacramento y Roseville entre 1995 y 2005.
Roberto Jaramillo, de 70 años, ha sido acusado de repetidos abusos sexuales y violación de una niña entre 1996 y 1999. Jaramillo dejó la Diócesis de Sacramento en 2005 y sirvió en la Arquidiócesis de Atlanta antes de regresar a su diócesis de origen en Colombia en 2008.
Jaramillo ya tiene una orden de arresto por delitos graves. La Diócesis está cooperando con investigadores y pide a cualquier persona que tenga información sobre Jaramillo, en particular, con información relacionada a posibles víctimas adicionales que se comunique con el detective Matthew Wollman del Departamento de Policía de Sacramento al 916-808-1223.
Jaramillo sirvió en la Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe en el centro de Sacramento, la Parroquia de Santa Rosa en Roseville, la parroquia Inmaculada Concepciόn en Oak Park y la parroquia de Santa Rosa en el sur de Sacramento.

La diócesis ha recibido dos denuncias adicionales que involucran a Jaramillo. En 1999, Jaramillo fue acusado de besar a un niño juvenil. Jaramillo negó esta acusación y las investigaciones tanto de la diócesis como la policía local en ese momento no encontraron evidencia suficiente para justificar acción adicional. En 2020, la diócesis recibió un reporte de Jaramillo de abuso sexualmente de un hombre adulto en 2001. La víctima fue animado a denunciar el asunto a la policía. La Diócesis de Sacramento sigue compartiendo información sobre esta acusación y la investigación con la diócesis de origen de Jaramillo en Colombia.
