Dear Friends in Christ,
Our immigrant neighbors seek, like all of us, a sense of order and well-being for the common good of society. With this mutual desire we contribute to a dynamic economy, the vitality of our communities, and the healthy education of children. The law serves to help us achieve a social environment that promotes the welfare of all. In this way, everyone enjoys the benefits of good order and peace that cultivate a sense of neighborliness and fellowship among all.
When the law is applied so as to disturb the daily rhythm of families and communities, the consequences fall on everyone. They disrupt the work of commerce, education, and even the legitimate application of laws that protect the vulnerable and ensure peace. Angry protests against these senseless methods serve no one, neither the citizen nor the migrant. It risks prolonging anxiety and deepening rivalries.
Although it may appear as weakness and timidity for some, a more fruitful and resolute response will be to maintain a rhythm of dedication to the tasks that are both necessary and just for the well-being and tranquility of our families and communities. A firm, patient, intentional participation in the economic, political, educational, religious, and social responsibilities of society will demonstrate the common sense of this reasonable disposition and reveal the inefficacy of the ill-conceived measures taken by some federal agencies. This is my commitment as well as my brother priests to all of you.
Let us pray to Jesus, the Good Shepherd, for all who have been afflicted by the unfortunate circumstances unfolding among the people of Los Angeles. Let us ask for the intercession of our Blessed Mother, Our Lady of Guadalupe, that the authorities and we ourselves may work together for the harmony and well-being among all.

Estimados Amigos en Cristo:
Nuestros vecinos inmigrantes buscan, como todos nosotros, el orden y el bienestar para el bien común de la sociedad. Con este deseo mutuo contribuyen a una economía dinámica, la vitalidad de nuestras comunidades, y una formación sana para los hijos. La ley sirve para ayudarnos alcanzar un ambiente social que promueve el bienestar de todos. Así todos gozan del buen orden y paz que cultivan el respeto mutuo de buenos vecinos y el sentimiento fraternal entre todos.
Cuando la ley sea aplicada para desbaratar el ritmo cotidiano de nuestras familias y comunidades las consecuencias caen sobre todos. Rompen las labores de comercio, educación, y aun los esfuerzos necesarios para la justa aplicación de leyes que protegen a los vulnerables y aseguran la paz entre todos. Protestas rencorosas a estas medidas insensatas no sirven a nadie, ni al ciudadano o al migrante. Corre el riesgo de prolongar la ansiedad y profundizar las rivalidades.
Aunque parezca como debilidad y timidez para algunos, será más fructífera una respuesta resoluta de mantener un ritmo de entrega a los deberes justos y necesarios para el bienestar y tranquilidad de nuestras familias y comunidades. La firme, paciente participación intencional en el enlace económico, político, educativo, religioso y social de la sociedad entera revelará la sensatez común de esta disposición y desvelará la ineficacia de las medidas tomadas por algunas agencias federales. Este es el compromiso con todos ustedes de este servidor y mis hermanos sacerdotes.
Oremos a Jesús, el Buen Pastor, por todos los que han sido afligidos por las circunstancias lamentables entre el pueblo de Los Angeles. Roguemos por la intercesión de nuestra Santísima Madre, Santa María de Guadalupe para que las autoridades y nosotros mismos trabajen unidos por la concordia y bienestar entre todos.
