Deacon Anthony Pescetti, who was ordained to the permanent diaconate for the Diocese of Sacramento in 2008 and served the diocese for more than 16 years, died on Dec. 5. He was 73.
Deacon Pescetti served at St. Mel Parish in Fair Oaks from 2008 to 2019, St. Ignatius Parish in Sacramento from 2019 to 2023, and Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish in Sacramento from 2023 to 2024.
The vigil for Deacon Pescetti will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 7 p.m. in Presentation Church.
The funeral Mass for Deacon Pescetti will be on Wednesday, Jan. 15 at 10 a.m. in Presentation Church, located at 4123 Robertson Ave. in Sacramento. Ministers will include Bishop Jaime Soto, Msgr. John Barry, Father Bernardin Mugabo and Jesuit Father Scott Santarosa. The rite of committal will be held following the funeral liturgy at Calvary Cemetery and Funeral Center in Citrus Heights.
Deacon Pescetti lived a full and vibrant life focused on public service. From his time as a California state Assemblyman, to serving as a deacon in three parishes in the Sacramento area, to leading a team of lobbyists for an international software company, he was passonate about making a difference in the community and impacting the lives of those he mentored.
His most prized titles, however, were husband, dad, grandfather and friend. Those who remember him will remember his sense of humor, warm smile, generous heart and unwavering faith in God.
He is survived by Kathy, his wife of 47 years; their children, Sarina (Bryan) and Anthony; four grandchildren; Joseph, Kate, Ethan and Carter; his father, Joe, and sisters Joann (Tony) and Rosanne. He was preceded in death by his mother, Nancy, mother-in-law Joyce, father-in-law Robert, and brother-in-law Bobby.
