Youth and Young Adult Apostolic Movements Gather to Pray, Share, and Strengthen Their Mission

On Wednesday, July 30, the Pastoral Center was filled with hope and joyful purpose as Bishop Rey and Alejandro Barraza, Coordinator of Youth and Young Adult Ministry, welcomed leaders from the Diocese of Sacramento’s Youth and Young Adult Apostolic Movements for their first-ever gathering.

In a spirit of communion and shared mission, participants prayed together, shared a meal, and spent time learning about one another’s apostolates and unique charisms. Represented at this inaugural meeting were leaders from Totus Tuus, CFC Singles for Christ, CFC Youth for Christ, Emmanuel Community, Renew-Encounter Christ (REC), the Vietnamese Eucharistic Youth Movement, SEARCH Sacramento, and Fiat.

Bishop Rey spoke candidly about the cultural challenges facing young people today and emphasized the importance of understanding the world they live in to more effectively proclaim the Gospel. He encouraged all present to accompany youth and young adults with courage, creativity, and deep faith—so that Christ may be known, loved, and followed in every heart.

This initial gathering marks a promising beginning to stronger collaboration among those who serve the young Church. United in mission, these apostolic movements are helping to form the next generation of missionary disciples—young men and women ready to witness to Christ in today’s world.

Please keep these movements, their leaders, and the young people they serve in your prayers as they continue building a culture of encounter, faith, and witness across the Diocese of Sacramento.

Following this historic first gathering, the Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry invites all apostolic movements serving youth and young adults to be part of this ongoing conversation. Bishop Rey looks forward to continuing this journey together in a spirit of unity and evangelization.

If your movement is interested in joining future gatherings, please contact Alejandro Barraza at abarraza@scd.org to sign up for the next meeting in October. Together, we can build the Kingdom of God—one heart at a time.
