A Year of Grace and Growth: Celebrating Catholic Education in the Diocese of Sacramento

As we bring this school year to a close, I write to you filled with gratitude, pride, and renewed hope for the future of Catholic education in the Diocese of Sacramento.

Since our last diocesan-wide communication during Lent, we have witnessed extraordinary moments in both the life of the Church and in the lives of our students. In this Jubilee Year of Hope, what a blessing that we experienced a historic event—welcoming Pope Leo XIV, the first American Pope. Our students across the diocese watched and waited in prayerful anticipation during the papal conclave, their excitement and reverence was a reminder of the faith that truly grounds our school communities.

We also celebrated the beautiful milestones of our Catholic faith as hundreds of students received their First Eucharist, and many of our 8th-grade graduates and high school students were sealed with the Holy Spirit in the Sacrament of Confirmation. These sacred moments remind us of the mission we share: to form disciples of Christ who live lives of virtue, purpose, and service.

In just the past week, I had the privilege of attending several graduation and commencement ceremonies throughout the diocese, where over 800 8th grade graduates earned their diplomas. These celebrations were filled with tradition, joy, and a deep sense of community. I was especially moved by the accomplishments of our students—not only in academics but in the way they witness their faith. It is humbling to see the impressive value of scholarships and awards received, thanks to the generosity of donors, parish ministries, and local organizations who believe in the promise of Catholic education.

As we look to the future, we are confident that our students are well prepared. Through challenging academics, faith formation, and a commitment to our virtue-based education, our graduates are equipped not just to succeed in high school and beyond—but to become leaders, thinkers, and saints who will serve their communities and help build the Kingdom of God on earth.

Thank you to our devoted educators, our dedicated families, and our faithful supporters for walking this journey with us. May your summer be filled with rest, renewal, and the joy that comes from knowing you are part of something truly meaningful.

With blessings and gratitude,

Dr. Katie Perata
Executive Director of Catholic Schools
