The September/October 2022 issue of Catholic Herald magazine has been published. The theme for this issue is "Hallmarks of a Welcoming Church: A Eucharistic Church." The digital edition of the magazine is available at

In the cover story of this issue, Catholic Herald introduces you to the 20 new permanent deacons who were ordained to serve parishes in the Diocese of Sacramento. Bishop Soto ordained 17 men on June 25 during a Mass in the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Sacramento, and three during a Mass on July 30 in St. Joseph Church in Lincoln.

Other stories in this issue include Bishop Jaime Soto's column on: "The Catholic community, together with other people of goodwill, has the opportunity to foster a new moral ecology "; how the Eucharistic Revival committee sets a meaningful tone for diocesan phase; how the staff and donors of the Sacramento Life Center celebrate 50 years of 'God moments'; how a youth-led baby shower assists families in need in Maxwell, Williams and Arbuckle parishes/missions; how two new deacons, Raphael Lopez Valencia and Patrick Mahan share their love for the Eucharist; how parishioners and friends celebrate the retirement of Msgr. Robert Walton after his 48 years of ministry; how young adults and ministry leaders participating in the conference titled, "Alive in Christ: Young, Diverse, Prophetic Voices Journeying Together," will take action to continue the conversation; and how California's Catholic bishops are mobilizing Catholics through their "We Were Born Ready" ongoing effort. There is also a special report on "U.S. bishops launch eucharistic revival: My Flesh for the Life of the World."

Bishop Jaime Soto is the publisher of Catholic Herald magazine, which is published six times each year and includes moving faith stories about Catholics in the diocese, as well as news and events of the local church. Individual faith stories are the cornerstone of the magazine and columns also explore the Catholic faith and education about church teachings.
