Funeral Mass for Father William P. Kinane is Tuesday, November 10, at St. John the Baptist Church in Folsom

With faith in the promise of the Resurrection, the Diocese of Sacramento mourns the passing of Rev. William Patrick Kinane, who entered eternal life on October 22, 2026, at the age of 93.

Born on November 2, 1932, in County Tipperary, Ireland, Father Kinane was ordained to the priesthood on June 16, 1957, at the Cathedral of the Assumption in Thurles, Ireland. Later that year, he came to California to begin nearly seven decades of priestly service to the Diocese of Sacramento.

Throughout his ministry, Father Kinane served in parishes across Northern California, beginning at St. Joseph Parish in Redding and St. Mel Parish in Fair Oaks. He also served as a prison chaplain at the California Conservation Center in Susanville and Folsom State Prison.

Father Kinane later served as pastor of Sacred Heart Parish in Anderson, St. John the Baptist Parish in Folsom, St. Catherine of Siena Parish in Vallejo and St. Dominic Parish in Colfax. During his 22 years at St. John the Baptist Parish, he helped guide the growing parish community and oversaw the construction of its new church, which was consecrated in 1990.

Following his retirement in 2008, Father Kinane was named Pastor Emeritus of St. Dominic Parish. In retirement he continued to assist with parish ministry throughout the Diocese.

The Diocese of Sacramento gives thanks to God for Father Kinane's many years of faithful priestly service and asks the faithful to pray for the eternal repose of his soul and for the consolation of his family, friends and all those he served.
