Father John Keane, SA, dies; served as Director of Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs for the Diocese of Sacramento

Father John Keane of the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement, who was 87, died on June 29 in Graymoor, New York, headquarters of the Atonement Friars. A funeral Mass was celebrated on July 13 at St. Anthony Chapel at St. Paul Friary. Interment followed in the Friars' cemetery.

He was predeceased by his parents, and his brothers Thomas and Martin. He is survived by his sister-in-law Irene; his nieces, Barbara, Maureen and Mary; and several great nieces and nephews.

Father Keane served under Bishop William K. Weigand from 1998 to 2001 as the diocese's director of ecumenical and interreligious affairs. He also served in the Archdiocese of San Francisco and the Dioceses of Stockton and Monterey in various roles.
