Chrism Mass 2021

Bishop Jaime Soto will preside at the annual Chrism Mass on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at 6pm.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Chrism Mass will be live-streamed.

Bishop Soto and the priests of the diocese will pray for God’s continued blessings on the local church of Sacramento. The priests will renew their priestly promises.

At this Eucharist, the bishop will bless the three holy oils which are used in sacramental celebrations in all parishes of the diocese throughout the coming year. The oil of catechumens is used to anoint catechumens preparing to join the Catholic faith. The bishop will also consecrate the oil of chrism, with which women and men are anointed as God’s priestly people at baptism and confirmation, and men are anointed in their ordination to the priesthood.

The bishop will also bless the oil used for anointing those in need of healing in the sacrament of the sick.
