Catholic School Community Letter on Forthcoming Mandate

Dear Diocese of Sacramento Catholic School Families,

Last Friday, October 1st, Governor Gavin Newsom announced a forthcoming mandate that will require students to be vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition for in-person learning at the state’s public and private schools. The Governor's Student Vaccine Mandate Fact Sheet states the following: “Based on current projections for full approval for ages 12+, we anticipate the requirement would apply to grades 7-12 starting on July 1, 2022.”

The state has yet to release an official public health order to this effect and no time frame has been provided for publication of the new mandates. Diocesan leadership and legal counsel will thoroughly review the new mandates once they are posted to determine next steps for our Catholic schools. We will continue to keep you informed in the coming months.

Thank you for your ongoing partnership and commitment to Catholic education.

Warm Regards,

Katie Perata, Ed.D.
Executive Director of Catholic Schools
Diocese of Sacramento
