Graduate Program in Pastoral Ministries

The GPPM - Sacramento

Santa Clara University is pleased is to offer an online blended Master's of Arts Degree in Pastoral Ministry for the Diocese of Sacramento.

The degree requirements consist of 15 four-unit classes taken over 4 years and 3 summers. The courses are taught through a combination of face-face, video conferencing and online experiences.

New Cohort Beginning Fall 2017

Admission Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
    • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above preferred
  • Possess a certain maturity in faith and commitment to the Church
  • Have a minimum of two years experience in ministry, paid or volunteer
  • We strongly encourage: DREs & CREs, RCIA coordinators, Youth Ministers, Confirmation Coordinators, and Liturgy Coordinators to apply
  • The applicant must sign a letter of agreement with the sponsoring parish and the diocese committing to serve for a period of time as a Master Catechist of the Diocese of Sacramento, as well to serve in his/her parish

Application process for Santa Clara University

  • Complete an online application by July 1, 2017:
  • Submit Official Transcripts
  • Two letters of recommendation from persons able to evaluate the applicant's ability to successfully complete graduate studies and her/ his ministerial experience

Application Process for Diocesan Scholarship

In order to reduce the impact of the cost of this program, the Diocese is able to offer partial scholarships for 9 students. Scholarship recipients will have their tuition split evenly three ways: 1/3rd of the cost will be financed by the Diocese, 1/3rd by the parish, and 1/3rd by the student. For students who qualify, cost for the 2017-2018 school year is $2280.

  • Complete Diocesan Scholarship Application by July 1, 2017
  • Interview with the Diocese of Sacramento DEC Staff Member
  • Pastor recommendation letter regarding her/his ministerial experience and skills

Costs of the Graduate Program

  • Tuition
    • The cost of tuition for the 2017-2018 school year is $1710 per 4 unit course (includes 25% discount for those involved in ministry)
    • The cost of tuition increases by approximately 4% each year
  • Books, Materials, WiFi Connection, Transportation to Live Sessions, Hospitality
    • These associated costs will be the responsibility of the student

Program Details

  • The program requires fifteen (15) classes. The class structure is on a quarter system, one class per quarter: Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer. Each class is ten weeks divided into 3 live sessions and 6-7 online classes.
