Sacred Voices Concert

79.65-130.40

A rare and extraordinary evening of sacred choral music, performed by Sacred Voices — direct from Rome — in one of the most magnificent cathedrals on the West Coast.

These distinguished musicians from the Roman and Vatican Choirs bring the timeless tradition of Gregorian chant and sacred polyphony — music that has resonated for centuries within the walls of the Vatican. Rooted in the historic Roman School of sacred music, the program celebrates the beauty, spirituality, and artistic legacy of the Catholic Church and the great composers of the Sistine Chapel.

About Sacred Voices

Sacred Voices is the choir of the Cardinal Domenico Bartolucci Foundation, established in Rome in 2004 to preserve the sacred music tradition of Maestro Domenico Bartolucci (1917–2013) — the celebrated director of the Sistine Chapel Choir for over 40 years, later made a Cardinal by Pope Benedict XVI. The choir draws professional singers from the Sistine Chapel Choir and the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, and has performed worldwide, including a memorable concert for Pope Benedict XVI in the Sistine Chapel, and for Pope Leo in the Sala Regia of the Apostolic Palace shortly after his election.

The Venue

Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Sacramento

One of the largest cathedrals west of the Mississippi River, the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament is among Sacramento's most historically significant landmarks. Dedicated in 1889 and beautifully restored in 2005, its Victorian interpretation of French Renaissance architecture features a soaring 110-foot interior dome, intricate stained-glass windows, ornate chapels, and a 13-foot crucifix above the high altar.
