Voter Choice Act

In the Catholic tradition, responsible citizenship is a virtue; participation in the political process is a moral obligation. All believers are called to faithful citizenship, to become informed, active, and responsible participants in the political process.”

- From a statement of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship: A Call to Political Responsibility

Overview

The California Voter's Choice Act is legislation which fundamentally transforms how elections will be conducted in the State of California.  Beginning in May 2018, all registered voters in Sacramento and Nevada Counties will receive a ballot at home and have the option to return it by mail, place it in a secured drop box, or cast their vote in person at any voter center in their county. Vote centers will be open for at least four days through Election Day with some open for a full 11 days.

Bishop Jaime Soto encourages parishes in Sacramento and Nevada County to work with the local County Registrar to inform and educate Catholics about the changes to the voting system (letter to priest)
